Tasting Notes

Nose

An initial burst of minerality is quickly followed by earthy peat smoke and freshly milled barley. It’s a punchy whisky, but settles down to reveal smoked ham and kippers, with a twist of lime, and hints of stacked grass, straw and freshly ground black pepper.

Palate

Fresh and zingy, with youthful exuberance backed up by fruit and malt. Sweet peat dominates, with fragrant smoke, rich earthiness and charcoal notes balanced by raisins and gentle spice – cinnamon, cumin and clove.

Finish

Long, lingering and complex. It starts sweet, with unrefined sugar turning into rich caramel, before picking up dark and smoky molasses notes. The richness fades, leaving a puff of wood smoke.

Comment

A powerful whisky that comes into its own in the finish. Smoky, sweet and densely flavoured.
