Amrut Peated Single Malt Whisky

70cl - 46% ABV

Amrut Peated Single Malt (46% ABV) is a peated single malt whisky from India made from barley that has been malted and dried over peat fires in Scotland.  Amrut has been producing single malt whisky in Bangalore since 2002.  The whiskies produced here are subject to intense heat during the maturation due to the tropical climate of the region, which means that the whiskies reach maturity three-to-four times faster than in Scotland however the angel’s share can be as high as 15%.  Amrut Peated Single Malt is a smoky and rich whisky with notes of delicate smoke, tropical fruits and candied citrus zest.

Tasting Notes

Nose

Candied sweetness followed by a burst of mineral-rich smoke – charcoal smouldering in a stone pit. Fruit develops, with candied lime peel and zest, dried apple and a concentrated mix of tropical fruit – unripe mango, papaya and blood orange.

Palate

The smoke hits first, with sweet wood and spice – anise and liquorice root. However, it takes a back seat to layers of fruit and sweet grain – sugary fruit jellies, shortbread and a gentle citrus zest sharpness.

Finish

Sweet and citrusy, with a gentle tingle of white pepper.

Comment

Gently smoky, with peat providing a backdrop for the sweet fruit and soft spice that are Amrut’s trademark.
