Many say that Armagnac is in the prime of its life at 20 years old. At this age, the Armagnac is full of life and displays a lovely character. Already the alcohol is tamed, the tannins more refined and the aromas taking shape. It is certainly the most wonderful age for the Armagnac enthusiast who appreciates power and maturity.

Tasting Notes

Nose

Elegant, with sweet grapes, fruity toffee, wax polish, freshly cut leather, marzipan hints and blanched almonds. Gentle spice peeks around the edges, along with candied lemon, dried papaya and honeysuckle.

Palate

Big and fruity to start – sweet apples, both stewed and freshly sliced, sultanas and raisins. Gentle spice sits behind that, with floral hints, wax polish and some dark chocolate.

Finish

Lots of dry spices; ground ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, mace – almost garam masala-like. As that fades, tannic fruit skin and sweet dried fruit dominate, with hints of menthol.

Comment

Rich, fruity and complex, with a surprising amount of freshness on the nose. An excellent transitional Armagnac, bridging the gap between more youthful and richer, older spirits.
