Speciality Brands adds Thomson Whisky to its portfolio

Speciality Brands is expanding its world whisky portfolio with New Zealand's Thomson Whisky, which it will distribute exclusively in the UK from May 2025.

Speciality Brands, the premium spirits distributor, is further strengthening its world whisky portfolio with the addition of New Zealand's Thomson Whisky. Joining the likes of Nikka, Michter's, Kavalan and Starward, Speciality Brands will be exclusively distributing the Thomson Whisky in the UK starting 12th of May 2025.

Founded in 2009 by Mathew and Rachael Thomson, Thomson Whisky is a boutique New Zealand distillery known for handcrafted, small-batch whiskies. First starting as independent bottlers, they then launched their own fully fledged distillery in 2014. Made using locally sourced ingredients, they are the first whisky to use manuka wood to smoke its barley, setting it apart in both flavour and tradition. Thomson is renowned for its commitment to sustainability and craftsmanship and has gained international recognition, making them the most awarded New Zealand whisky to date.

Four expressions will join Speciality Brands' portfolio: Manuka Smoke Single Malt Whisky, South Island Peat Single Malt Whisky, Two Tone Whisky, and Full Noise Limited Edition Whisky.

"Partnering with Speciality Brands to grow our business in the UK is a momentous and proud moment for our distillery," says Rachael Thomson, Co-founder, Thomson Whisky Distillery. "From the minute we started conversations, it was clear that Chris, Nathan and the team fully understood our strategic business goals and our approach to distilling unique New Zealand whisky. They are the market leader for a reason and we're lucky to be backed by such a force."

Chris Seale, Managing Director of Speciality Brands, says: "The breadth of our world whisky portfolio is one of the most unique in the UK, and we are thrilled to be adding a whisky from New Zealand. Thomson has gained a great reputation over the last decade for the quality of its liquid and significant focus on sustainability and locality. We are extremely passionate about high-quality spirits with compelling stories, and we can't wait to get stuck in and spread the word about Thomson in the UK."

Mathew Thomson, Co-founder and Head Distiller, Thomson Whisky Distillery adds: "We're excited to partner with Speciality Brands and share our whiskies with UK drinkers. We bring ingredients, climate and unique flavours from the South Pacific in our whisky, and this taste journey will now be available across the UK via Speciality Brands."
