Finished in Manzanilla sherry casks, this has lent the whisky a delicate saltiness, along with flavours of vanilla, orange and mint.
Tasting Notes
Nose
Very fruity, with a much lighter character than with other styles of sherry cask. Apples, pears and honeydew melon lead, with soft spice, cocoa and toffee following. Sat behind everything is a soft, sweet and lightly salted caramel.
Palate
Well balanced and sweet, with a vanilla note running through the middle. Kavalan’s classic fruity character makes itself known, wrapping the creamy core in orange, lemon, more melon and a leafy herbs – mint and tarragon.
Finish
Sweet and long, with fruit fading to leafy herbs.
Comment
A whisky that perfectly shows the difference that the type of sherry cask can make. Gone are the rich red fruits, replaced by intense tropical and orchard fruit notes.
