This release from Kavalan's Solist range has been aged in casks that held the sweetest style of sherry: Pedro Ximenez. Expect plenty of dried fig and raisin flavours.
Tasting Notes
Nose
More herbal than expected, with green leaves, rosemary and lemongrass joining more typical sherry-cask notes – toffee, raisins, plums and dates. The flavours are balanced, with toffee adding a sweeter side to the nose.
Palate
Surprisingly mellow and very well integrated, with juicy fruit and a vein of rich honey sweetness. Spice sits at the core, although is swamped by fruit.
Finish
Sweet and long, with honey and dried fruit slowly fading to oaky spice.
Comment
A surprisingly mellow entry in the punchy Solist range, well-balanced and very well integrated. The sweet honey and soft fruit of Kavalan’s spirit is enriched but not hidden by the PX maturation.
