Tapatío Reposado
A versatile tequila to be savoured neat or enjoyed in cocktails, Tapatío Reposado offers both character and balance. Beginning as a blanco, it is gently rested for 4 to 6 months in ex-Bourbon barrels, allowing the spirit to soften and develop without overpowering its core agave profile.
The barrels are not re-charred, preserving the tequila’s natural clarity while allowing it to breathe and mellow over time. The result is a beautifully integrated expression that maintains the integrity of the spirit while adding subtle depth.
On the palate, it opens with a slight astringency before evolving into notes of candied orange and a touch of caramel, finishing clean and dry.
Tasting Notes
Nose
Led by Tapatio’s trademark pepperiness, this is more mellow than you might expect. Fruity apple and an undercurrent of roasted agave are joined by sweet cream and a hint of wood smoke.
Palate
Again, the pepper leads the way, but doesn’t get in the way of the fruit and cream from the nose. The time spent in wood has added more spice to the already spicy spirit, although it has also rounded off some of the edges.
Finish
Spicy, but not spiky. Fades very slowly.
Comment
More restrained than some reposados, but still with bite. This is not so much about maturation in wood, but instead mellowing and allowing the rougher edges of the spirit to be rubbed away, revealing elegance beneath.
