About Tapatio
Tapatío Tequila represents three generations of expertise, craftsmanship and fierce family pride - a liquid that stands apart from the rest. Tapatío was the first tequila created at La Alteña Distillery, nestled in the heart of Arandas, Jalisco, Mexico, by Don Felipe Camarena in 1937.
Still family-owned, 100% Mexican and now led by Don Felipe’s granddaughter Jenny Camarena, the youngest member of the third generation, Tapatío continues to honour a legacy built on producing one of the world’s most respected tequilas.
Remaining true to its artisanal roots, it is crafted using 100% Blue Weber agave, harvested at full maturity from the family’s own highland agave fields. Some of these agaves are allowed to become extra ripe, adding further depth and complexity to the final spirit.
The agave is traditionally cooked in brick ovens powered by steam before being crushed using both a roller mill and a traditional Tahona stone. The extracted juice is then naturally fermented in open wooden vats, with the wet fibres from the Tahona included to add further character, creating the agave wine that is later distilled twice.
The Camarena family’s deep respect for tradition and meticulous attention to detail remain at the heart of Tapatío, ensuring every bottle reflects generations of passion, authenticity and tequila-making expertise.
